Airbus Industries A340-300
|
The Airbus A340-300 is the flagship of the SWISS fleet. Thanks to their operating range of about 11,000 km, the four-engine long-distance jets serve all SWISS destinations around the world. Non-stop and with full payload. Special features The A340 is the true ‘marathon runner’ of Airbus and holds several long-distance records. The attractive winglets give the aircraft an elegant appearance. Moreover, those features on the tips of the wings help to save kerosene as they substantially reduce vibrations on the wings. |
Airbust Industries A330-300 & Airbus Industries A330-223
|
SWISS serves medium and long haul destinations with 11 aircraft of this type. In the two-class configuration, the Airbus A330-223 has 230 seats while the three class configuration has 196 seats. The newer A330-300 will replace the former model and will accomodate 236 passengers. The A330 is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney PW4168A jet engines and state-of-the-art technology. Compared with its predecessor, the Airbus A310, the A330 consumes one-third less kerosene. Despite its higher weight, the A330 is much more quiet than the A310, both inside the cabin and in terms of external noise. Special features Thanks to its variability and performance, the A330 deserves the nickname ‘power pack’. Whether high above the north Atlantic or on a medium-haul route to Africa - you can always rely on the A330. |
Airbus Industries A321-111
| For short and medium distances with high passenger volumes, SWISS uses the Airbus A321 with 176 to 200 seats and a cargo capacity of 4.3 tonnes. With a length of 44.5 metres, the Airbus A321 is the ‘big brother’ of the A320 family; it is one-third longer than the Airbus A319. Four Airbus A321 are used on European routes and between Switzerland, North Africa and the Middle East. The average age of these aircraft is 9 years. |
Airbus Industries A320-214
| For distances up to 3,600 km, SWISS uses the Airbus A320 with 136 to 168 seats. The CFM56 engines feature state-of-the art environmental technology. The 37.6 metre long aircraft carries up to 3 tonnes of cargo. SWISS operates 19 aircraft of this type on European routes and between Switzerland, North Africa and the Middle East. These SWISS aircraft are no older than 8 years on average. |
Airbus Industries A319-112
| With a length of 33.8 metres, the A319 is one of the smallest in the Airbus family. In the SWISS version, this aircraft offers a volume of 108 to 138 seats on distances up to 3,000 km. The two CFM56 jet engines give the Airbus A319 an average speed of 750 kilometres per hour. SWISS uses seven aircraft of this type on European flights and between Switzerland, Africa and the Middle East. Their average age is 9 years. |
British Aerospace Avro RJ100
|
With its four powerful engines, the Avro RJ 100 is particularly suitable for airports with short runways. It is used e.g. on the route to London (City). SWISS operates the Avro RJ 100 with 97 seats. Special features Made by AVRO, a traditional British aviation company. The wide cross section of the fuselage has the advantage of a particularly spacious cabin (nickname Jumbolino, also due to its four jet engines). The low noise emissions earned the AVRO its second nickname ‘Whisperjet’. The Avro can take off and land on short runways - the ideal aircraft for routes e.g. to London City. |
