Glattalbahn A new transit for Zurich Airport
Report: Patrick Kessler
Translation: ZRHLX/ITS
Finally, the Glattalbahn (German: Transit for the Valley of «the Glatt») has been put into service as scheduled on the 14th of December 2008.
The transit runs from Zurich Airport to Zurich Main Station. The line's construction work is made of three section. As section one and two have now been completed, the third section will connect the service to Glattzentrum and the Wallisellen train station. The train stop is located next to the bus station of the airport.
The Glattalbahn runs from 5.45 to 23.30 every 7.5 or 15 minutes.
Thanks to the mere 36 minutes needed to race from Zurich to the Airport, the tramway has become a new artery in the regional rail network. Currently, two car models are used on the tracks (Tram 2000 and Cobra). When the third construction section will be finished, only Cobras will be in service.
The new stations are connected to the electronic timetable. Upcoming departures are shown on electronic displays.
My Opinion
I have used the Glattalbahn myself and can recommend the ride to everyone.
The new Cobra Trams make it an enjoyable jourey. The track invites you to discover the new and modern train stops and stations.
